nostalgic - took my daughters to see it on the big screen - in South Africa - wonderful movie - buy lots of tissues.

My kids range from 4 to 8 and loved it. My six year old changed his teddy from bobo to Jock! I enjoyed seeing the rugged Eastern Transvaal and KwaZulu Natal country side which made me home sick. The DVD stopped short of the books ending where Jock inevitably dies. Like many films, the 90 minutes did not do full justice to the book and the authenticity of some parts were lost to make it more pc for the times. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it, recognising the coloquialism of the country, era, and the fact that it is a true story!Jock of the Bushveld ( Jock: A True Tale of Friendship ) [DVD]

unfortunately this is not the original south african verson from 1986 with the johnny clegg soundtrack and starring johnathan rands - check out gumtree for the original.

from the beginning to the end this tale of a staffordshire bull terrier (and his mom) keeps the tears in your eyes, a great tale of the outback and a dogs fight for survival, a must for children and adults alike.
