Relationship advice My son is 38. 3 years ago he met someone and fell head over heels in love. Within 2 months they were engaged and arranging a wedding for the following year. He had been through a tough time as his beloved Grandad had just died and he was studying for a degree.

The relationship ended badly in the October. There were all kinds of cruel accusations too many to relate here but the upshot was that my son virtually had a nervous breakdown. He eventually seemed to recover although I felt he had not quite got over it.

In February 2011 he picked up a copy of a newspaper to see a story about his ex getting pregnant with a sperm donor who she had gone on to have a relationship with. It did not work out.

When the baby was born he went to see her and I could tell he still was emotional about the whole thing.

Three months ago I found out that he was seeing this lady again and had got very involved with the baby who he seems to love as his own. He tells me that all the past problems have been discussed and resolved and all he wants to do is look after her and the baby. Now he has announced she is pregnant with his baby and is overjoyed. He is about to move out of his flat, and has tied himself up financially (joint purchase of a car). I really really want this all to work out well but still have some real concerns. If it goes wrong he stands to lose everything including his child. Am I being unreasonably negative?

Don't be too much negative, everyone needs a chance in life, even that girl and your son too needs a chance..don't think too much. Let him try to work on this relationship for the second time.....be positive, soon things will run smoothly. Tc

Do YOU have a relationship with HER?

You can either see this as a joy (wow - immediate MIL, immediate grandma! how great!!) or an impending loss. Your choice.

It sounds like HE has made up his mind.
