Is it worth my effort?
I have been dating my bf for a year and a half. It started off strong for the first month or two and then things got rocky. Then I found out I was pregnant. The relationship was difficult throughout the pregnancy. It turns out he is an alcoholic and a drug addict (weed), and can't seem to keep a job because he keeps getting fired due to his attitude. Now our baby is 9 months old. He is a wonderful father and has been staying home with the baby for the last 6 months (and I went back to work). I feel like I'm paying for everything. He pays for half the rent with his EI cheque but I have furnished the house and bought everything the baby needs. I'm really sick of paying for everything. He thinks I'm superficial but how is he going to support a family and potentially retire down the road if he doesn't get a good job? He's already 40. Still smoking weed several times a day and drinking every night. He barely has enough money to pay his bills but he can always seem to afford beer and weed. Also, our sex life has been suffering a lot, and I'm not happy here either. I want our baby to have a mommy and a daddy but I am really not happy with my bf right now. If it wasn't for the baby we would have split up along time ago. I keep thinking its going to get better but nothing seems to improve. We've been fighting ALOT lately. Should I keep trying for the sake of the baby or just move on?
Your BF has addiction problems to overcome, and given his age , he's not likely to change and therefore, among other things, he'll make a poor role model for your child.
Ask yourself why you would want your child to grow up in the environment you have described in your post.
Why use the baby as an excuse for not having left him ages ago? The only way things will improve is when you make the decision to move on for both your sake and most importantly, your child's.
