Is sending a letter a bad idea?

My boyfriend and I have been separated for about 3 months now, and I hate it. I miss him and I've let him drag me along in hopes of getting back together. He wants to be friends but I end up bugging him when he doesn't give me attention. I need to move on and I cannot be his friend, instead of trying to meet up, or call or Skype I wrote a quick letter explaining that I made a mistake and I miss him but I can't be dragged on. A few people told me it was a bad idea. Is it a bad idea to send a letter? I don't expect him to respond, I just thought maybe this will provide closure and he will stop throwing the "friend" card at me. Is this a bad idea?

Hi! I too am a letter writer. I think it gives each person time to either get all of their thoughts out, in order and make sure everything is covered. Letters also force the other to "hear" you without interrupting, making excuses, try to minimize your feelings etc. I would send the letter but it will be on you to make sure you follow through. Even with a letter he can still string you along. You need to be very clear of your feelings and decision. Avoid "If" and "Or" because those are giving him options. If you are sure of what you want and sure of being able to follow through with the statements in your letter, I say go for it. Letters are a great way of communicating ensuring the person writing is "heard" in full! Good luck!

Writing letters is fine, but without actually knowing what it said, we can't tell if this was a good or bad idea.

You say you made a mistake? What mistake? Why did you both break up in the first place? You need to give a bit more information as your method of communication will depend on your reasons for breaking up.
