Relationship advice My boyfriend and I have been together for almost two years now. My problems lie in the family department.

He has only met my family about 4 or 5 times now, and I always get excited for the holidays, thinking it will be a great opportunity to bring them closer together.

Unfortunatley, we will be spending Easter with his family and not trying to be with mine. Should I be upset?

I feel that we could split the time up by going to both, or he at least he could sacrifice one holiday and spend it with me and my family.

I am a huge family person, but I feel like it is such a challenge for him to meet up with my family. I also fear that my parents are looking down on him. I hate it! I wish he would try harder to impress them.

Thank you,

Hi Jane,

You shouldn't be upset about having to spend time with his family, as long as there is some compromise in your relationship. This is a pre-requisite if things are going to work out long-term.

Perhaps you could discuss this directly with him, so that you can come to some kind of resolution. Maybe he is unaware of your strong emotional feelings regarding the time needed with your family.

I have been in a similar position, and whilst it would have been inpractical for me to split up the time and visit both parents in one short break, we did find it worked well to alternate Christmas (for example) with each set of parents.

Hope you resolve your problems soon!
