Feeling sad and school problems?
Hi. I am feeling sad/down lately. Recently, well today, I actually dropped my class in school (college). it was a level 3 American sign language class. I dropped it because I felt like I was going to get an F or D and I have to work on my Grade Point Average to get into the Social Work major.
I was thinking of staying in the Sociology major I was in, and so I dropped the class. I looked at the sample academic 4 year plan for Sociology and basically I dropped this class for no reason. So now I am thinking I have to work my butt off in the other two classes to get my grade point average up so I can get accepted to the Social Work major next semester when I apply. But I feel a ton of guilt for dropping this class now. I mean, I am an adult so I don't have to tell my parents if I drop a class or not. Now I don't even want to stay in this sociology major because if I do then I will have to retake this class. I haven't been able to sleep and now its probably going to be worse since I dropped this class. I want to do whats best for me and my schooling. I do not regret dropping this class so why do I feel guilty? I'm not in the major I want to be in, I have to bring up my grade point average to apply for this social work major and I feel a ton of stress. I cannot wait until this semester is over, what should I do? I know I have to work very hard in my two remaining classes or I will create a bigger problem next semester and I just feel down and guilty and I wish I can start college all over again from freshman year
I feel like the worldwould be better without me and my problems because let's all face it, I am stupid stupid and stupid
Hi, I'm not American so I cant pretend to know what it's like or to understand how the system works but it sounds like you made a smart and logical move.
You need to tell yourself that you can't go back in time to start over and stop beating yourself up for what you think are mistakes. Forgive yourself for being human and don't overwork yourself, make sure you have friends to destress with (in a healthy way) or find a physical activity you enjoy because it sounds like you're overwhelmed and need to get out of your own downward spiral of thoughts.
Use this time to learn how to deal with stress for as rewarding as social work is, it will be stressful and upsetting at times. I hope you find peace in your situation

Yours is not an uncommon thing to happen. Perhaps you declared your major too soon.
Why not re-explore all related fields with a school counselor - or even consider switching majors.
Consider this an OPPORTUNITY!
PS I know a guy who was almost thru an engineering degree - then switched to medicine. Talk about starting over! He was a wonderful Dr. and now on staff at a teaching hospital. My grandson has already switched from sports medicine to law (2nd year)
