Advice regarding married man - what would you do?

Relationship advice I am married but separated. I got talking to a man online via a discussion forum about 2 years ago, we hit it off immediately and talked for over a year before we revealed our true feelings for one another. by that time my marriage was in difficulty and by mutual agreement we split. the man i was talking to said he was in love with me and i felt the same. he is married to a woman who is a lot older than him and in ill health. he had not been happy for a long time. we agreed to meet , we did and it was amazing , we both felt like we had met our soul mate and for both of us it just confirmed our feelings. we kissed but it went no further than that because neither of us wanted to cheat. we made plans to be together , he would leave his wife and be with me . we were both so happy . then he spoke to his wife about leaving her ( he didnt mention me) and they both got upset. he decided to stay with her , he felt he couldnt leave as to do so would upset her too much and jeapodise her health even more. he wanted to stay friends with me. i was devastated but trying to be understanding agreed to friends. since then , 5 months past and he switches on and off , one minute saying he loves me and wants to be with me and we will "find a way" , the next minute stopping all contact. I have put my life on hold for him, i love him and want to wait as he says he cant be with me until single. i am not getting any younger , what do i do ? wait in the hope he will one day leave and put up with him stopping and starting contact with me in the meantime or try and move on with my life. i do love him but this is tearing me apart. what would you do?

What proof do you have that his wife is so ill that he won't leave her?

This man used you for fun and excitement for 2 years, but when reality came, he could not complete his plans.

Hello and thanks for the reply. I only have his word that she is ill , he says she is elderly so it is plausible that being older she may have health problems?
