Eyes perform a major role within the human anatomy. Sight is one of the most unbelievable senses that we are blessed with, and sometimes it gets undervalued. Due to their inherent value, a lot of attention and research has been focused on various diseases and conditions associated with the eyes.
Symptoms of eye conditions can be subtle and gradual or strikingly immediate, depending on the person involved and the relative situation they’re in. It’s critical for people to focus on their eyesight, with the goal of self-diagnosing a problem before it worsens to the point of no return. Some conditions and diseases are reversible and some are not, but this article is meant to shed light on some common indicators of eye trouble. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, and it can be hard to catch eye issues unless there are frequent doctor visits with extensive exams.
Certain symptoms represent red flags that something is going on, and some of them are listed below. If you are experiencing any of them, make sure to seek professional treatment.
It’s not very common for people to have eye pain unless a condition, disease or sickness is present. If you are experiencing dull or sharp pain within or around your eye balls, it’s important to seek out immediate attention. There are certain circumstances like being out in the sun for extended hours that can cause eye pain, but if it persists or seems unusual, there is most definitely something going on. This could be a sign of Glaucoma, among other conditions that can result most seriously in blindness.
If you are having blurred vision, either direct or peripheral, it’s worth taking note of. There are cases when blurred vision doesn’t necessarily indicate something serious, but they are rare. Blurred vision is a strong indicator that there is an issue relating to the nerves near and within your eyes. It’s important to get it checked out immediately. This could be a sign of macular degeneration, especially in senior age people.
It’s normal for people to feel that their eyes are itching, but it should be very infrequent. If your eyes are noticeably itchy or puffy, it’s important to get it checked out. Itchy eyes can be a sign of something contagious, and it’s vital to get it sorted before others are exposed. This could be blepharitis on the serious side, and a common cold on the less serious.
None of us can see perfectly at night, but it’s a red flag if you notice diminished night vision. This is a somewhat natural side effect of aging when anyone’s eyesight is concerned, but it still deserves special attention if it worsens suddenly or gets to the point where it’s nearly impossible for you to see at night. This could be a symptom of cataracts and many other eye issues.
Seeing flashes of light can be a sign of a serious eye condition or disease. If you notice any bursts of light in your vision, especially if you haven’t noticed it before or if it’s becoming more frequent, make sure to seek immediate care. These bursts usually involve the retina and optic nerve, which are both very important to vision. This symptom could be a sign of retinal detachment or other issues.
It’s really important to take care of your eyes, and even more important to seek treatment if anything goes wrong with them. It’s a common belief that people underappreciate their eyesight until it starts to diminish. To avoid long term damage, pay particular attention to eye symptoms and seek immediate treatment if you notice anything out of the ordinary.
