Putting a loved one into a nursing home is a difficult decision, and finding the right location can seem impossible. With 1.5 million Americans living in full time nursing facilities, it’s important to know the facts behind nursing home care. www.nursingschoolhub.com has created an infographic entitled "Golden Years", detailing the realities of nursing home care.

88% of nursing home residents are ages 65 and up; 45% of nursing home residents are 85 and up. In total, 2% of Americans live in nursing homes between the ages of 65 and 84. Space for these aging individuals is getting harder to come by; most states are between 80-90% full.

All nursing homes and long-term care facilities offer skilled nursing care and assistance with daily tasks. On the average, residents receive 3.7 hours of direct nursing care-1.4 hours with a certified nurse. These services can include dental health, mental health, medical care, and pain management.

8 out of 10 nursing home residents need help with four or five essential activities for daily living, including eating, bed mobility, transferring, dressing and toileting.

This infographic also details the amounts spent on private and semi-private rooms at nursing homes, along with the percentages spent by state Medicaid, Medicaid, and private funds.

While accidents do happen, some states fare better than others when it comes to quality care. This infographic presents a startling look at each state’s ranking in terms of deficiencies leading to actual harm or jeopardy.
