Mother's day issues

I know mothers day can bring up complicated feelings for people. I feel I shouldn't have ill feelings because I am the mother of a very sweet toddler. However I am an only child and mother has one sister (my aunt) who does not have any children. It somehow seems they make the Mother's Day holiday about them and I feel like the odd one out. I feel like they are obsessed with each other. Mother's Day with them just feels uncomfortable in a way that the other holidays don't. How should I handle this situation?

I too share a very frustrating mothers day. My mother in law believes it is HER day.. My husband skipped out one year to spend it with me and our children and she literally threw the adults version of an enormous fit. To her it was HER day. It is frustrating for sure, but remember, it's just a holiday. One meant to give props for what moms do. Even if the day doesn't feel like you as a mom, you know how you do as a mom. Happy Mother's Day from me. I won't get on with my crazy mother in law lol. The thing is some people take holidays too seriously. Mothers take mother's day way way to seriously. It's meant as a reminder, not a birthday party because you have kids. Just know you're doing the best you can. Ignore feeling left out because that is silly. You're a mom. Take that and take it in stride.
