Crush on my best friend

Okay so I'm in high school and I've been best friends with this dude since our freshman year (so three years) and we're really close. ALso for three years, he has had a girlfriend who I went to middle school with and considered her a close friend as well. Recently she has been accusing me of liking him and flirting with him which I denied because at that time I didn't have a crush on him. She eventually told him to choose between me and her. and he chose me- he called me and told me he had a crush on me and asked me out but I told him to wait because I didn't want to be his rebound relationship. And again I didn't think I liked him at this point. They got back together and the next day she and her friend were in the hallway at school crying because she thought I liked him. Well, things have cooled down between the three of us and now weeks later after thinking about the last couple years and our friendship, I realized that I like him. That I've always liked him. And now I don't know what to do. I don't want to break up their relationship.

18yo Guy here...I just graduated from High School like a couple months ago so I’ll start by saying that dram in high school can be crazy people accuse you of stuff that you never have done and may sometimes turn out to be true afterwards so with that being said you have feelings for him now and you don’t want to look back and wonder what if I messed up in High School not acting on a relationship when I had the chance and now two years after we met sophomore year now that me and her are friends again I realized I’ve loved her all along and it isn’t the same so I’ll always wonder what if, what if we dated then would we still be together would we have more of a future together? Tell Him! You don’t get second chances at Love! Hope this helped!

High School can be tough. Learning how to handle relationships between best friends, classmates and dating is just the beginning of challenges in life. That being said, I thought your response was very mature. “WAIT”! Rushing from one relationship into another relationship is cause for concern. Smart move to wait! Your Middle School friend seemed to notice some flirting going on... Do you remember if this BF Dude was flirting with you or were you totally clueless? ;) Maybe give it some time and just be yourself. If he really likes you, I doubt his flirting will stop. If he makes another move, let him know you don’t want to be responsible for breaking up their relationship. But, you’d have a hard time giving him up as your best friend.
