Transferring Universities

Hey guys, Canadian here. I’m going into my second year of university this fall. Unfortunately, I’m unhappy with my current university and major and I would like to transfer to a reputable Canadian university for engineering. I finished high-school with a 95% average and I’ve taken all the necessary prerequisite courses for engineering. The problem is that I achieved a low GPA in my first year. However, that year my father had to leave his job and go on disability benefits due to a chronic illness which caused a lot of financial and domestic problems for my family. Needless to say these problems distracted me from school. I should also add that I ended up dropping a few courses so this GPA is not the result of a full course-load. I understand that I may not be able to transfer right away and that’s fine. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to transfer. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would reach out to the admissions department for that college and see what they can do to assist you in getting you processed over. It may mean repeating courses or taking other courses to get in but its worth a shot. Also, the records/ transcript dept can do an audit as well to see what courses will be accepted and credited and what ones will not. I think that is a great start ! Alex

Thanks Alex that’s good advice. I’ve emailed admissions at universities I’m interested in and I’m currently awaiting their responses.
