When is the right time to start trusting the guy you met on sites?

Hi, because of lockdowns I kind of ventured into dating sites. I like the guy but since I haven't met him yet, I just couldn't commit to him. Now, I don't want to let him feel I'm not interested. I tried telling him that we should wait but he's right we're in our 40s and time is running. What else can I do?
