Confused by ex boyfriend

My ex Boyfriend ended things months ago. He has fought for us to be friends, even when I have wanted to run away. he would always txt me, every day. For the past 2 weeks he has suddenly become distant and cold. he still messages me, just not daily, and when he does its short conversations or yes, no answers. He will not tell me where I stand, and he knows I still have feelings for him. I'm confused.
