Scared to tell partner about STI

Default profile image
I've been with my partner for nearly 20 years. However a few years back curiosity got the better of me and I had sex with another man. Ultimately I decided that this wasn't what I was looking for and have not done it since. However it seems the past has come back to haunt me as I have tested positive chlamydia. I know that I must tell my partner about it. Of course I'm scared of the response I'm going to get and also that my life as it is now could well be over. I also have 2 children. I know that what I did was wrong and now I'm going to have to face the consequences. Any advice on how I should proceed with this would be helpful. Many thanks

After 20 years, you should know your partner well enough to know what sort of reaction you're going to get. As usual, there's consequences whether you tell them or you don't, & some people will tell you to keep it under wraps if you know sparks will fly, but if you want to do the right thing by both of you, then be honest and upfront and wear it on the chin either way.

Tell him now, or wait til he finds out that he has it. Either way you did something 100% wrong and will be quite possibly be in massive trouble. But in one of those scenarios you at least have a little hope, because you came forward with concern for his health. Tell him, it is the honorable thing to do. Don't expect very gracious behavior from him though.
