Don't know why it didn't post: The t-shirt read, "Happy wife, happy life." Colleague was **really** offended. I would have thought making one's spouse happy and improving one's own in the process would be a pretty non-controversial idea. but colleague was beside himself, even saying it 'sucked.' Am I missing something?

Anything about the shirt could have set someone off. Maybe it makes the guy sound like he is a push-over and the woman calls all of the shots. Maybe it sounds like it is implying the woman can sleep around or something. Or maybe it just sounded annoying and cheesy. Typically, this is why people usually don't wear shirts with sayings. Nothing can be misconstrued and it is just more professional. Likely the wearer meant nothing by what their shirt said, maybe they just really love their wife and maybe their wife even bought the shirt for them to wear. It should be on the person who sees something offensive to not be so offended by it. But it does happen. As long as it does not violate some workplace code, the wearer is free to wear it and everyone else will just have to not be so irritated by it. At least this person wasn't so irritated by the shirt that they attacked the wearer, or caused a big scene over it. They were just stewing over it. And, it's highly likely that this person was already irritated about something else, and this was just another annoyance that made them want to vent.

It is a saying that I have heard countless times in the past. One of the reasons that I don't like the saying now, is that I think a relationship should be equal. If you have to make your wife happy, so that she doesn't make you miserable....that is not equal and honestly she is too dominating in the relationship.
