What should I do???

This is my first time ever posting on the internet about my issue, but the issue is this: I've been single for about 2 and a half going on 3 years now and I ended up running into a old high school friend and we hit it off right away. She gave me her phone number we communicated with one another, we began to hang out and she even spent the night over a couple of times. But then one dreaded day, she gives me a call and questions me about something that happened between me and my ex gf. So turns out that my ex is closely related to this womans family. She basically had asked me if I treated her a particular way and I admitted to it, my ex was a very jealous individual and didnt want me having any other friends that were women. So at first she told me thats its alright and we can look past that since it was something in the past, but ever since I was asked a question like that everything started to get weird, she was quiet around me and she made a lot of instances between me and her awkward. So she eventually told me through a txt msg that we could just be friends because of the issue I had with my ex, I told her ok thats fine. So I stopped communicating with her, but then she wanted to meet up with me and talk to me about what we had already discussed through text messages, I didnt want to but I did anyways and all that happened was she just ended up repeating herself. She tells me "I believe we should just be friends, I mean I really want to be with you but if your ex wasnt in the equation then we would be together" So I told her I understand, she tells me when ppl say that aloud that means they dont understand. Im like what???!!! Anyways from time to time she'll txt and ask me "What are you doing?" I mean txting her is weird now and its like, why are you continuing to communicate with me, I dont mind being your friend but its like she wants to get to know me more as a friend as a safety precaution because of course she's heard bad things about me from my ex. But this is all soooo confusing to myself and I really would appreciate it if I recieved some advice, thank you.

My opinion, she wants you to chase her. She wants you, but it's hard because of your ex, that situation thing. But she has to know that it's all in the past. Leave the past alone and move on with the future.
