Mixed signals

My friend and I have know each other for 8 years. We have always been in each other's life over the years, even with each of us having other relationships etc. We have messed around in the past, but nothing in over a year. Both of us are over 30. Over the last 6 months, we both find ourselves single and spending a lot of time together. Two weeks ago, I expressed my feelings to him. We had both been drinking. He told me he only wanted me as a friend. His reasons were that he isn't good at relationships and he said i deserve someone amazing. He also said he isn't ready for a relationship with anyone. Since that night, we continue to spend lots of time together. He has been the one asking me. I also signed up on an online dating site ....and......the next day i get a message from HIM! I had no picture, so he didn't know it was me. When I told him...he just fluffed it off. Here's my issue: His profile describes ME, he is always telling me how great I am and how much he enjoys spending time with me. He always wants to spend time with me. IS he interested or am i misreading it? His words don't match his actions at all. Hi profile says he's looking for a relationship. Help me understand this please

More info: - he has a child from a previous relationship and has recently moved into a new house alone - when the two of us hang out we always spend the night, same bed...no sexual behaviour (but there has been in the past)
