What will happen if she says no?

So I am a freshman in highschool and homecoming is coming up soon. A lot of people have been asking girls and I am just not sure what to do. I want to ask this girl and I would have no problem getting the guts to ask her, but there is one thing holding me back. What if she says no? We have know each other since the beginning of the summer, we both came from different school and are in an activity together which is how we met. We text but I am usually the one who starts the conversations. She texts back no problem so it doesn't seem like she hates me. I know some of her friends, but not really well (like I said we all came from different schools so we don't know each other too well yet). I am worried that if she says no then things will become awkward and being in that activity together will just be even worse. It'll be like "oh I know you like me now". Is there anything I can do to try to make sure things don't end up becoming awkward?
