Should I have this lump removed?

I have some kind of a cyst in my chest on the top left side of my rib cage. It drives me insane. I found it one night in the shower and, worried that it might be cancerous, I had it looked at. It drove me nuts for anyone to touch it and I can't let anyone do so unless they have to. I feel like such a baby, but it hurts to touch it or rub it against anything. I'm also worried that it might be growing, which could be problematic.
I've been advised not to have a cyst removed unless it causes problems because doing so can leave a bad scar. Also, I abhor surgery (and medical bills), not that those are reasons to ignore a medical problem. So, should I have it removed? Should I at least have another chest x-ray to see if it's growing or not? My doctor won't tell me what to do one way or the other and I'm on the fence, so tell me what you'd do. I'd really appreciate it.
Did your doctor say it was a sebaceous cyst?
