Do you like me or not?

There is this boy I know that I have become really good friends with this year and we sort of have been flirting with each other. Whenever I think we could possibly start dating or something, he always seems to pull back. For example, I texted him on his birthday and told him that I was really glad we were friends and he agreed and then when I responded and said we should hang out soon he never responded. Then I texted him on Christmas and again he never responded. It's not like I text him all the time, those are really the only times I ever had. And after that, I thought he didn't like me, but today in the hallway, he "accidentally" showed up right next to me, which is totally unlikely! I'm just wondering, will anything ever happen between us or are we just good friends?

In other words, when it comes to the actual crunch of golden opportunities (provided by *you*), the actions you've been led to expect fail to materialise. Something or someone else has got his fuller attention. And only whenever that thing or one it/herself/himself steps out of the room (so to speak) does he turn his attention back to you again, including getting the satisfaction of seeing that you fancy him more than a friend.
