Giving up the weed

Hello to all of you. I'm in my late 40's and have been a "dope head" since I was 16. I am horribly addicted to it and it has caused me major problems at work, at home and with my health. The time has come to let it go but I know it's going to be difficult especially when I'm dealing with a great deal of uncertainty and issues that have come about because of my addiction

Damn i know how you feel! Not as old as you but the addiction has been real. The only thing i could say is dont let it smoke you. There is a time and a place for everything. Try to smoke less and less each time. The only timewe cause these problems is when we allow the issue to become bigger than us. But you got it dude. Ask God for help thats what hes here for

Thank you sigh. You are absolutely right in your reply. The weed smokes me at the moment but tomorrow is day 1 of my weed free world. I have reached rock bottom this week as my addiction has got me suspended from work. I have embarrassed my family and myself. The gravity of my situation is all too clear and it's going to be a really hard road back. I may loose my job, my marriage and my home. I will be posting my progress on here.

No you wont lose those things. I will continue to pray for you and your situaton! You will get through this dont worry and then you will start back working and rebuilding healthy relationships with your family. There is a reason for all reactions you just have to be ready to be used for something great

The best way to become un-addicted from anything if you find going cold turkey or weaning-off too hard, be it a substance or another human being, is to find another addiction but this time make it something healthy, as in life-enhancing, AND not just the one thing/one habit (because any thing in isolation and excess will prove unhealthy). Introduce this holistic attitude so that it represents a change in lifestyle. For example, start taking a really deep and scientific interest in health-/super-foods and exercise... find natural highs and enhancements. Your mind was always perfectly capable of manufacturing its own drugs and highs, in other words. Ones that *enhance* performance. You just need to experiment to find out what and which works on you, which really grabs your attention and interest. It could even be a new, highly-involving interest. After all, pride and self-esteem produce a natural high... although, obviously, learning to, say, parachute-jump would give a more noticable one. That way, you avoid the senses of loss and deprivation and boredom (- the scupperers). Also, agree with SIGH. If people can SEE you're really busting a gut to put all wrong things right, your crimes then become blotted out by your surprising impressiveness, which itself firmly labels all crimes to-date as Past/Gone/Well & Truly Dead. In other words, they'll be too busy being gobsmacked to worry and feel like they could be next in your firing line. In other-other words, it's not what you do but the way that you do it. Do *anything* truly properly, i.e. TO THE HILT, and the positive results effect instantly and lastingly. It's half-hearted or just enough that leaves room for doubt and suspicion in others and erring on the side of caution and insurance, actions-wise.

Thank you for your prayers sigh. I will need divine intervention. Thank you soulmate. I will take your advice but rightly or wrongly I am going to have to go cold turkey cause tomorrow is my disciplinary at work and there is a good chance I will get fired. (I work in a warehouse and I came across an open packet of sweets and rather than report it, I ate them). And tonight I have to tell my wife that we face an uncertain future. Lots to keep me occupied and my mind off the weed. Wish me luck.

Let me tell you about crappy: it's always a blessing in disguise that leads to improved happiness. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about (some of the things I've been through would make your hair curl!) But kudos for having had the strength of character not to break your abstinence. Here's a tip about that. It's like a diet. If you slip up, you don't ditch the entire diet, you just chalk it up as the moment of weakness it was - a blip - and carry on. As long as you're moreover *not* smoking it then once you get used to that as the status quo, going from there to absolute zero will be child's play. Have you tried those electronic Shisha pens? They're bloody delicious, especially the Bubblegum flavour! That way, you won't feel like you've given up smoking per se, just the weed (which is what you need). (Sounds very much like a poem. I imagine Keats would agree (only I don't know 'im)) (ha-ha). No, I'm sober actually. Just my pathetic attempt to cheer you up. And SIGH.
