Seeking advice about supporting someone special with depression

Hi there, Last year I went on a first date with an amazing guy and we clicked, and everything seemed to be going really well. Like life, it wasn't without its hurdles and a few months in he started to ignore me and push me away until eventually he ended it. This pattern continued once more, and then at his request I began to move on but honestly part of him was always in the back of my mind. A chance encounter in a bar approx 8 months since we'd seen each other and he began contacting me again explaining he'd been in a very negative situation previously and through the counselling he's currently recieving he felt in a better place to potentially give it another go. Ever the optimist I agreed to a second chance, that was a month ago now. He's depressed and currently recieving help though is pushing me away numerous times in the process, and every time knocks me down a little further. I doubt he knows the impact of his behaviour does to me. I feel like this is one of my only hopes of gaining unbiased insight into the situation and I guess what I'm asking for is either advice or dare I say the answer to the question do you think its worth it? I hope some of you can help. Thank you geniunely.

As they say "Hope Springs Eternal" Has he ever explain what he meant by" he had previously been in a very negative situation? Has he ever discuss with you what's causing his depression? What reason did he give you breaking up the first time? It's been one month and you see the pattern of his behavior resurface- I would consider moving on this time for good. It's obvious he is not mentally healthy enough to maintain a relationship.
