Hello! I've been wanting to become an occupational therapist since at least 8th grade. But, I see you can major in anything as an undergraduate to apply for ot school( and yes, I know about the prerequisites). I was wondering, what did you major in as an undergrad? I want to major in something that I know I can keep my grades up in. But id really like to hear about your experience! Also, I'm becoming a little be discouraged already about perusing this career. It's a passion of mine yes, I've volunteered a lot already, but I'm worried about not getting accepted when the time comes. I have and I'll make sure I have high grades (I'm a smart kid) and I'll want to volunteer a lot already, so I know I have that under my belt, but I'm still worried. How did you keep from becoming discouraged? And if you applied for ot school and didn't get accepted the first time, what did you do for the year before reapplying and how many years did it take for you to get accepted? Thank you all so much!
Oh dear - sorry Katie0908, but it doesn't look as if there are any OTs around here at this present time.
Have you not got access to any head teacher or careers adviser at your current school? Can your parents or relatives not help? What about phoning round all the OTs in your area and offering yourself up for a week's work experience, unpaid, so that you'll have access to all the information and tips you need from the horses' own mouths, so to speak?
What about any forums based around occupational therapy, have you tried searching the net for one?
