Online dating

So I have been messaging a guy for over a month now and all going well we were due to meet soon. We arranged a date that is the coming week. He messaged most days and we exchanged photos etc. We messaged as normal last Thursday and. Now nothing. Just dead silence. I've never met the guy so should I just forget it? Should I message one last time around our 'date' and tell him it would have been polite to let me know either way. I had a good feeling about him and it wasn't just a few days messaging - it was four or five weeks of getting to know each other. It's my first experience of online dating. Any advice?

My sister dates and texts quite a bit via online dating. Judging from her experiences, I would say, yes, this is very common. These guys will text and text, but when it finally comes down to meeting for real, they disappear. My guess is that they are just looking for texting/sexting buddies and/or that perhaps they are involved with someone else. I met my husband online, but did not get into texting with him before meeting. I think we texted only about our meeting and talked on the phone once, maybe? My other sister met her husband online, as well. In both cases the guys wanted to meet within a week or two. It wasn't any long, drawn out communication. My guess would be that if someone is content messaging for a month, that's all they want. It's hard, but don't take it too personally.
