Should I tell my boss or see if I get away with it

I offered a good deal with a top client to secure solid business for the next financial year. The offer was in regard to bonus incentives... if they spent a certain amount, I would give them bonus goods. But in hindsight, the bonuses were too generous and I'm not sure that my manager would approve it. Because I have already offered this to the client, I fear if I need to relinquish the offer, that this may cause major poroblems with the client/company relationship and potentially even legal issues. Should I go through with the deal as is, and not mention it to my manager, or risk all by telling the manager.

It's best to be honest and upfront with your manager and advise them of what has occurred. He or she is responsible for you and if the deal turns out to be too generous and needs to be re negotiated, regardless of the outcome, you need to be seen doing the right thing by all involved. If that means consulting with your manager and admitting your mistake, then so be it because your gut is already telling you how your client will react to any negative changes in the deal.

Thanks Manaline. As it turned out, I did go to my boss this morning as i came to the same conclusion as you. It turns out my offer was very reasonable and acceptable, so I worried over nothing :)

Well, Blockie (:-D), at least you've had an opportunity to impress upon your boss just how (these days) uniquely honest, cooperative and conscientious you are. Maybe that was your subconscious aim all along, meaning, you're cleverer than even you yourself know [wiggles eyebrows]? Stranger things have been known to happen?
