I am a dentist with a masters degree working in the UAE. I have always been unhappy with my decision and being an introvert and afraid to voice my real feelings I led my self to believe that I can still be happy with my career choice. I've been practicing for almost 5 years and I now feel like I can't take it any more and literally think of leaving everything. But I don't have any other skills and still afraid of what my family would think of me for giving up on all the education and money put into this career choice. The rest of my family (parents and siblings) are financially stable and I'm afraid I'll just be a loser in their eyes. Ijust feel like I'm trapped.

Most people end up in jobs that have little to nothing to do with their mayor college (for exp. me (rofl) ) so do what ever you want, just because you studied dentistry in college doesnt mean you have to do dentistry for ever. But I think you need a break :-D being overwhelmed is a common sign that it's time to take a break from the job u r doing, and I mean it , just take a break for as long as you like and think (To take time to think is to gain time to live) until you find what you want . Be happy

There is nothing worst than being in a job you hate .Being unhappy adds stress and anixety. What is it u really want to do? Don't just quit where ur till u have a plan in place take some time off and really think about it and make a plan and see it through. Your family will understand and don't feel bad you tried it but found this is not what u want they will understand. But don't quit your job it will only add more stress money wise make a plan and go for it . You only have yourself to make happy and Evetything else will fall into place

Dear UnhappyCareer, I’m sorry you feel stuck in your job. As a introvert, I also struggle with voicing my feelings and also struggle with letting others dominate my life. It is important that you find the career you love, and I know it is difficult to change a career path. Several years ago, at the start of the great recession, my career was terminated by massive layoffs at the fortune 500 company I was working for. So, I started a career search and in the process in conjunction with my church started a career coaching service. In searching through dozens of possible processes on job searching, I discovered the program called “48 days to the work you Love” by Dan Miller. We took dozens of people through Dan’s process to find meaningful careers. This is a brief description of Dan’s approach. As a leading vocational thinker, New York Times best-selling author Dan Miller helps you better understand and organize your God-given skills, personality traits, values, dreams, and passions. In turn, you’ll see clear patterns form that point you toward successful career decisions. Packed with modern insight and timeless wisdom, here is a step-by-step process for creating a Life Plan and translating it into meaningful, satisfying daily work. You can find Dan’s book on Amazon. I strongly suggest you purchase the book and take the time to work through the process. Wish you the best as you explore options to finding work you truly love. Glenn
