When to tell them

when is the best time to tell my kids that there father and i was splitting up. my sons birthday is in 2 weeks should i wait until after then. they are all over 20 and do i tell them to there face or on the phone. they are all away at uni at the moment.

There's never a good time to tell your children about your marriage split and given their age and depending on how close your family is, there's a good chance that they could have an idea that's things are not well with mum and dad. Face to face, if possible, is the best way to let them know because not only is it respectful, it also gives both parties the chance to discuss an emotional issue in the presence of each other.
