Confused about gifting my ex crush

Hi there, this is my first time posting here and i hope you all can take some of your valuable time to answer me :) im F19 and he is m21, we've known eachother since 2016. We were friends then had a short dating period and had a fight and just drifted apart. We've recently started talking again and we are clear we are nothing more than friends. His birthday is coming next week and i want to gift him, but im confused whether i should. Will it show that im overly caring for him? I dont want him to get any wrong ideas. In the past 4 years that we've not spoken to eachother he hadn't even wished me on my birthday and now i think this is too much of a effort for him. Pls lemme know your thoughts. Idk whom to ask about this. Im not sure whether its a good idea to gift him? Or should i simply drop this idea? Please do drop in your thoughts by tomorrow night. Thank you so much. Depends on how regularly you guys talk/hang out. If you see each other a couple times a week, maybe get a gift. If only once a month or so, don't worry about it. If you do get a gift, make it something platonic. A gift card would probably work.
