Serious problems with my boyfriend, I really love him but I'm scared this might be the end- please help me

My and my boyfriend have been together for a while now and i still feel as though i have to hide my true self from him and i can tell he feels the same way. Our relationship doesn't feel like a serious relationship even though it should. When we are together it tends to get quite awkward after a while, and it's like we're both scared that we'll say the wrong thing so we just don't say much at all. It's also as if he's scared to have a serious conversation, and a serious relationship for that matter. We have both only met eachothers parents briefly and we have never been to eachothers houses. It scares me that after all this time it doesn't feel like a serious relationship, and i just don't know how to be myself around him. How do i make things not awkward and how do i make him more serious about us? I really do love him, and I'm not prepared to just give up on us. I'm scared that this is it and that this is all we're ever going to be. Please help me , i really really need some advice.

how long have you guys been dating? maybe you guys dont know each oher that much. i think you guys should do things that you guys have in common that way you'll have a lot to talk about and get to know each other and get comfortable. all the best:)
