Should I wait?

I really, really like a guy who just recently got out of a very long (5+ year) relationship. He's been very honest about how he feels about me, but also that he needs time and space to explore other things. He says he doesn't want a relationship for a long time. We talk every single day and even sext, but he's been very upfront that it isn't possible for him to be in an actual relationship. I like him a lot, and I think I am willing to stick it out and be there for him until he is ready for a real relationship, but I'm scared that it will never happen and that once he's ready for a relationship it won't actually be with me. I like him but I'm afraid if I wait for him, I'll just get hurt. I need some advice!!!
