Adoption

I am a gay jew, and me and my partner wish to adopt a child. However, we are aware that the childs mother must be jewish for the child to be jewish, but if the child is adopted by two fathers, does the child class as jewish? Or does the childs biological parents have to be jewish? Also, when adopting, do you get info about the biological parents? Because I am worried about adopting a child that may grow up with bad genes. Thanks for reading :)
