Ex boyfriend is stringing me along, is there hope to get back together

My boyfriend and I broke up about two months ago, he lives 6 hours away. When we broke up he was really stressed and I initiated the "let's call it quits". After initiating the breakup I was really cold and ignored him, which I think pushed him away. I traveled to him last month to figure stuff out but he did not want to be in a relationship. So, in order to move on I ignored him and stopped talking to him, he then yelled at me for ignoring him and told me he was coming down with his friends for caribana and that he wanted to see me. I saw him yesterday and it was wonderful, we went out to eat spoke about our lives and he told me he misses me and that I was an amazing girlfriend, he was very touchy and keat kissing my forehead or cheek even if I tried to avoid it. I messaged him this morning asking to meet up and although he agreed the plans fell through. I feel like he isn't making the effort that he should and that if he wanted me he'd try harder. Why isn't he trying but acts completely different in person? I told him he was stringing me along and now he isn't answering the calls/texts. Is there no hope for this relationship anymore? And why string me along for no reason? Please help.

Wait for someone more stable....trust me, he'll be worth it!
