Starting at a new highschool on Monday

I have sever social anxiety. If I'm going to be honest, I don't care if I make friends. If they come up to me and talk with me, sure I'll talk to them and maybe make a friend. I'm more worried about how I'll react on the first day. 3 days ago I had a panic attack, so I'm worried about how I'll be Monday. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope with the first day or make it less awful? I mean, I'm worried about little things like where to sit in class, how lunch will be, etc. thank you!

I've been in the same boat. Anxiety is not fun. I'd say just try and get through the day. Think of something you're looking forward to. It'll all turn out okay in the end. Just try and find your niche in a social group or just try and drift by unnoticed. As for lunch, I usually sit by myself at a table for the first few days and see who invites me to their tables and consider my options. Or just sit in the corner.

I am a little late in responding to your post so I hope that the first day was better than you thought it might be. At any age going to a new school can certainly be stressful on the first day. As a friend I would suggest it would be a good idea to let the school know about your situation. A talk with the Student Councilor (if the school has one) and/or the school nurse would be a good way to start. It's probably a good idea also to talk to all your teachers and tell them your situation and see what council they have to offer. As a Christian I believe in the power of prayer and I was wondering if you pray and do you think praying would be a help to you? You might also check out to see if there is a Christian group at your school. If there is you could contact them and I am very sure that they would welcome you in and you would most certainly find some friendly people there. As a new friend I am praying for you, best wishes at your new school.
