Over or not?

Long story I'm afraid: My marriage only lasted a couple of years and then I had a number of short relationships over the next 12-13 years until I met my current GF. We've now been together the best part of 5 years and everything was going fine (or so I thought) - I was living at her house most of the week and get on well with her kids(20&18) and her family and she gets on well with my daughter(20). Recently we spent a week in Italy - sun, good food etc which she said she enjoyed. Two days after we got home she came in from work and I could tell something wasn't right - "It's not working, is it?" she said and started talking about us liking different things. I countered with an arguement that yes, we like different things but there are also a lot of things that we both like. Eventually it got to the point where I asked her if she wanted me to go - no reply. I asked again, saying that if she wanted me to go, I'd go and give her time to work things out. Still no reply so I think I did something stupid, I took my stuff, gave her my keys and left. At no point did she ask me to stay. From one of her friends I've heard that she was distraught and unable to work the next day but wouldn't say what the problem is. A few days later I called at her house but because her parents were visiting we couldn't discuss things and she just said that we'd talk later. In the week or so since then I've left a voice mail message and sent a text, and she's not answered either of them. I've been advised by friends and family that I should give her more time (like another two weeks) before trying to contact her again. I'm not certain if I can do that as I really want to sort this out. So - any advice?

your saying that you went for a holiday everything was fine and suddenly she just came back from work and said its not working, after all the arguement, when you asked her do you want me to go ... she did not reply to you... neither she did try to stop you... now by the description you have given you are in your 40's, hence a mature man who has had relationships, when there is a problem in relationships , or a couple is not happy both of them feel it, so if ure saying that all this time you didnt feel there was a problem than maybe there is another reason for her behaviour. Or else maybe you never saw that she wasnt happy.Well i would say ... just talk to her, and ask her whats in her mind, just call her up and ask her , what went wrong. What is she thinking. If you really want to be back with her explain her that you are happy and if there are any problems you both can work it out. Best thing is to talk to her and decide a time sit down and talk calmly about how you both feel. You dont have to wait for month or weeks for that.
