Husband and I moved 7 hours away from family, they never contact us

we moved 7 hours away to get away from cold winters. While my family, sister and niece's family were not really close, they have not called us in 14 months. They will wonder why we won't be visiting at Christmas.(lol) They are not inclined to ever visit us. We don't want to visit them this Christmas, 7+ hours away, if they ask if we will be there, i plan on just saying we want to spend Christmas here in NC. I don't want to make up a story. Is that the right thing to do?

I think that’s the perfect way to respond especially without causing “drama” or using the unfortunate fact that they haven’t contacted you in forever. I think that’s the “bigger person” response in my opinion.
