Is it okay to be called a c**t by your boyfriend?

A good friend of mine in the UK has a bf of 18 months who can be very affectionate and loving, but when angry he tells her to shut up, grow up, F off, stop being a c**t. He won’t apologise for talking that way. He will give her the silent treatment too. I’ve tried to tell her it’s verbal abuse but she stays with him and accepts the treatment. I’d like to show her opinions from others that it’s not correct behaviour.

Hey, Well, he’s sounds nice doesn’t he! Yep, youre right and who knows what else is going on, that your friend doesn’t want to tell you. Not just opinions of others that should help her, google/ YouTube (together?) NPD (narcissistic personality disorder). Let her tell you (because she needs to discover this herself) what traits he ticks, I’m guessing a few! Silent treatment, verbal abuse, refusing to apologise (or never saying sorry), unable to acknowledge things they’ve done are some. It is hard for people to leave a narcissistic person because people with NPD can be very charming and loving, not because they mean it but so they can stay in control. Hope it helps her.

Thank you! I’ve read up on NPD myself. Tons of articles available online. I do believe therapy will help her because it’s one thing to acknowledge someone’s abuse, but as you say, can be hard to leave. I’ve also read about trauma bonding.

Your Gf would be well advised to walk away from the excuse of a man. It certainly isn't the done thing to be called any sort of derogatory word/s from your BF, partner, husband etc etc etc as well as be treated like a doormat. You are correct, it's verbal abuse and you can only advise her, but she's the one who'll have to put the effort in to make a move.
