Am I overreacting?

AYSHTONN profile image
Recently, I was at school during lunch when my principal was having a disagreement with my girlfriend. I was triggered so, I left the area to calm down. My girlfriend quickly followed me and so did my principal. My girlfriend was hugging me because I was on the verge of tears. During the argument between my principal and girlfriend, she had called him weird which is important to what he said to us. He said "You think I'm weird? What's weird is you two hugging." I was dumbfounded. I felt this was extremely unprofessional and kinda homophobic even if not intended to be this way. Should I tell someone or am I overreacting?

The principal out to be the bigger person here and not throw back in childish demeanor the word weird to you two as well, it kind of brings it all to a pretty low standard on how to handle the ongoing conflict. It is of no business if you two hug or not of the principal, so he was in my opinion out of line unless there are some really strict rules at the school where people are not allowed to show any physical tenderness what so ever.

I'm sorry I forgot to add that sure you could tell someone else but I hope they do not have each other's back, if they do you're not going nowhere with it, but you could still tell someone out of pure principle.

Ayshtonn, "I felt this was extremely unprofessional and kinda homophobic even if not intended to be this way." What do you mean, KIND of? Are you kidding me? You couldn't GET a more clear evidence sample from this jumped-up (or is it, pumped-up?) Emotional Idiot-in-a-Grown-Up-Suit! How old IS he - NINE?! Where did the Board of Governors GET him - Toys R bloody Us? He is in a major position of responsibility yet has too easily broken that trust. Think about it: were you a- not *Normal* couple, but, MORE COMMON, opposite-gendered couple - WOULD/COULD HE HAVE SAID THAT? *No*. Someone who thinks and behaves like that - in what should be a semi-sacred position - has no business being there or could end up doing real damage. He's supposed to be one of your PROTECTORS from "the monster under the bed", not the monster under the bed his very self!!! First, the normal route to take is to tell your parents. Or aunts/uncles/a friend's parents. BLOW THOSE WHISTLES FOR ALL YOU'RE WORTH, THE PAIR OF YOU. Bullies RELY on their victims' silence for getting away with it AND continuing merrily ON like that. Ugh. How are you both feeling now - you okay? PS: What was it in reaction to - her calling him weird? What ELSE toxic/irrational...just INAPPROPRIATE for his age and position, did this bozo puke-out in front of you guys?

Principals get paid good money, and they should conduct themselves properly. There shouldn't be someone so judgmental and petty in a position like that. You're not overreacting at all.

Aye. Not even if he was only JOKING... although I fail to see what's funny about it. Unless what he was referring to was, how comfortable with hugging you GenZs are?? But even then - a thoughtless, (panicking?) Blurter shouldn't be in a skilled diplomat and orator's (- Assemblies and boards of governor meetings, etc.) position! (You're not wrong, Balance. The world (or most of it) has gone bloody mad or flipped onto its head.)

(...To be fair - it has been known to do that. This disruption, mess, chaos and injustice everywhere you look, isn't a first. It's hell for all, while it lasts, but then things settle back to more normal again. Societal Growth Spurts, innit. But thanks to the internet (and human empathy/networking-up with other human, biological computers), espec during lockdowns - now a World one. Growth spurts (physical/outside version) were always relentless and painful. They'd keep you awake and everything. Deep, deep, deep aching, it was. Remember?) (Quick update btw: Still waiting.... It's UK Bank Hol this weekend, isn't it... Gonna have to be patient.)
