Credit cards are destroying us

Default profile image
My wife and I have been together 35 years, married 30. Four daughters, three grandsons. I am at the end of my rope due to her spending. As of this, she has racked up 55K on various credit cards. This has been an issue all of our marriage, but it is getting worse. I have paid off 25K here, and 20K there, I have seemingly tried everything. Asked her to go to couseling, she won't. Had her do the bills and it got worse. Cut up cards, she just gets more. She does not work, but the credit companies just keep sending new ones. I make a good living and have worked very hard. However, we have nothing to pay these off with. I am a responsible person who does not want to walk out on my family. Unfortunately, my anger and bitterness towards her actions is affecting me in many ways. We used to have so much fun together, now I avoid her. She admits she has a problem, and I threatened to leave last year. I just cannot do that to my family. I am depressed and feel hopeless. I owe the same on my house that I did 23 years ago due to I have had to take out equity lines of credit to pay off her habit. Is leaving the only answer?
