Was I wrong for giving up?

I was getting to know a guy for a whole everything was going good, we'd talk for hours had loads in common he'd told me he had feelings for me vice versa. Only problem was I was in university in Nottingham(I still am for the next 2 years) and he was in uni in London. But I live in London so it would have been a situation where we'd see eachother on holidays. Long story short, we met up, chemistry was still great and afterwards I asked him where he thought we were going but he said he wasn't sure if he could do a long distance relationship, and I agreed to taking it slow till then. Couple months went on were still talking everyday etc only it feels more like we're friends rather than 2 people that have feelings for eachother, he tells me about other girls he's asked out on dates etc and I can't bear to listen to that as I still have strong feelings for him so I ended our communication. Was I wrong for doing that? It's been a couple days and I miss him terribly but my pride won't let me go back on my word, and I'm not sure it would be the right thing to do :( should I move on or settle for friendship?

If that's honestly not what you want then move on. But if you can't bare life without him and it just makes you miserable then stay friends. Also, building a good friendship is a great formation to a relationship that could possibly happen in the future.
