Friend and child being thrown out!

Default profile image
This is truely a friend who has come to me today to explain that the man she has lived with for the past 10 years and whom she has a child with has told her to get out of the house he owns and go live elsewhere. He bought the house about 5 years ago and refused to tell the martgage people that she was living with him and that they have a son together - he has led her to believe that she has no rights at all as all the bills are in his name. He has forgotten one or two things though. She has a son with him, can prove where she has been living for the past 10 years, she has paid a large proportion of the bills and works to provide all clothing and activity monies for their son. Am I right in thinking that she has a right of residency and that he cant just throw her out? Could someone give some / any info which I may be able to pass on to assist her. She is feeling very pressured and I have tried to get her to see a soliciter but she is under the impression he can do what he wishes.

If her partner owns the property, her rights are limited. While it may be possible to ask the Courts to decide who stays in the property in the short term, she will need to get specialist legal advice about this and how to protect her and her son's interests. As far as I'm aware, only joint owners or a marriage agreement entitles you to equal rights. Hope this helps.
