I need advice

I want to know if any one out there has been through this same issue. I am a young woman born to a dark skinned african american woman and a light skinned african american man. The issue is that according to my family and other black people i am not really black because my skin is very light. All my life my family has excluded and rejected me because i do not look like most african american women. No body ever talks about the problem that they have with the way that i look. I stand out in my family bc of my skin color and my dark skinned family will NEVER accept the european roots in our family that cause me to have light skin. I am rejected by my own black people. I am looking for any advice on how to cope or any comments in general.

Hi Marie, I think it would be useful for you to visit your doctor and ask them to refer you to a councillor, so you are able to talk to someone who will listen to you and help you explore how you feel and ways of helping you find away forward. I have known many black people from the same famly, who are dark skinned, with sisters who have porciline white skin, green eyes and they would still prefered to be called black. The point is that regardless you are family and its them with the problem, not you. Good Luck
