Late bloomer, wanting to date, issues with parents

Default profile image
So I am 24 never dated. I am also unemployed, living at home, and do not drive, but I am working on trying to change both of those. Anyways I recently joined a dating site. The issue is my parents do not want me to date, or at least via a dating site. They don't think it's a good idea to date someone I have never met in person before. I used to agree, but that was when I thought I would meet someone in college or when I had work, but I just never did. I don't go out much, I don't have any friends at the moment that can introduce me to anybody. I know I am 24 I should be able to do what I want, but I guess my parents think that because of my lack of independence I am not ready for dating. I did some volunteer work while looking for jobs, and I don't party, drink, or use drugs or anything illegal and I never have. I know they can't tell me what to do but I have a hard time trying to do anything independently of them. I am with my mom all the time every day, and sometimes they even check my phone when it rings and ask who I'm talking to. I can't go anywhere by myself without getting grilled about it. I know I am not that independent for my age. But I don't think living at home and not working should not mean I can't be allowed to date and have some fun.

Yeah 24 is past time to be out on your own. Your parents may have a hard time cutting the cord since you have remained in there home for so long. That's great you don't do drugs and all that but may be you should go out for a drink, meet people your age that are social. I know people say you should meet people at school or work but it really is easier to meet new people when they are relaxed and focused only on socializing and know that you are there for the same reason. I have met lots of friends though socializing at bars and clubs that were aimed at my age group. I know they get a bad rap sometimes (bars) but if you go to nice ones where people are just socializing and relaxing it is a great atmosphere.
