Boy problems. Everything changes so quick!

Me and a boy have quite a lot of history not all in the good way. Basically I've known him since he was 5 and when we were about 13 made out (my first kiss and pretty sure his too). We started 'dating' and I dumped him a couple of weeks later because we lived in different towns and were to young to be getting buses left right and centre. We didn't speak for a year and then one day the next summer he asked me to go and but some shoes so we went and bumped in to two of his friends with their two gf. It was kinda awkward because we had only just started talking again that day but it was fine in the end because we know too much about each other not to talk. Another winter went by and we didn't speak. Summer came around again and I met two boys who I had no idea were his friends. I had a summer fling with one and before that I hooked up with the other one. The boy I like found and but we hasn't talked all that summer anyway. That same summer I bumped in to him with two girls and he pointed at me, I then found out he was telling the girls to go and talk to me because I am nice and would show then around if they asked. This summer I became good friends with another of his friends this time knowing it and we are only friends. We have talked on and off this summer, at the start he seemed really keen on me going to his town but then not so much and his friend told me he got jealous that I was getting along with his friends but I always ask him is he wants to come with us but he never answers or says he can't. So I don't understand why he's acting like this when he knows I like him a would hang out with him before anyone The time is a bit wrong we are now 17 so it has been more years than I said. The fact of the matter is he knows I like him and his friends say they think he may like me and that's why he gets so jealous when I'm with them. But its not like I don't try to meet up with him or try and get him to come when I'm with his friends but he either doesn't answer or doesn't seem to want to. In the whole summer we met up once and then everything went down hill But he seemed to me be excited when we did meet Even though getting back together or having anything in that sort of way may be impossible do you think we could still be friends?
