Confused and anxious

Hello everyone! I’m not one to usually bog down and want other people’s help, yet here I am. Yesterday my boyfriend of 2.5 years ended our relationship. He had considered it about 3 weeks ago and then said he knew it was the wrong choice because he didn’t want to peruse the future without me. Just before all this he told me how a month ago he was going to buy a ring in the near future and how there wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with our relationship. He said that he still gets the “spark” and great connection, it’s just not always there consistently. We are also always honest and talk through our problems. Sure, we weren’t perfect, but we did have this: honesty, a connection, respect, and trust. I’m honestly just lost for words because he just gave up on our relationship without truly knowing why he wanted to. I made sure to be direct regardless of how much it hurt. I asked him if it was boredom, or lost of interest and he responded no. We had been working towards fixing our relationship and to build trust back with one another. Long story short, we got in a small disagreement and he decided that he thought it was best to let me go because “I deserved someone who knows what they want.” I guess I’m just looking for answers, which I may never find, but also for someone to help me become sane. I know what I want and where I want to go in life, but I don’t know if I should just move on or hold on to my hope I have for our relationship that I still have for some odd reason.

Hi, He gave you very mixed messages and he led you on, giving false hope of a ring in the near future and also reassuring you that there was still a spark and connection. He sounds very insecure? Or depressed? You may of been always honest with him and shown him respect but he didn't with you, not in he end anyway! if he was unsure he should of had counselling to help him with his feelings and insecurities. I think if you did ever get back together, it hard to believe or trust what he says. He would need to show you and not just say it. I would try to move on with the things you want to do. Thats probably hard since he owes you an explanation but like you said you might not get one. But you do deserve someone knows what they want.

Thank you, Lily, I appreciate your thoughts and time. I posted this a day after it happened and as far as trying to move on, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Only time will tell what is meant to be. Thanks again for your time and comment. It means the world to me.
