Why should her mom control that?

I've been dating a girl for over a year. She was gone for 2 weeks on vacation. While she was gone I thought I would go out and buy her something that she has wanted for a while. We were with her mom and i told her that i needed her to ask her mom for a minute when she droped me off so i could give her her gift. My girlfriend said no to wait until another time when her mom wasn't there because her mom told her that she doesn't like when I give her things. Her mom has been judging me a lot lately trying to find things that I do wrong and I just wondered..is it really her moms place to say anything anyway?

Heads up Bradya, some Mom's still say something when their daughter's are in their 20s. You GF's Mom may be over protective or may not be but if she is, there's not much you can do about it other than accept it. Giving your GF a gift is not necessarily wrong, it demonstrates how you feel about her, and the gift needs to be acceptable in her Mom's eyes...but first and foremost, Mom has to approve of you...and that's her place because she's a parent.
